#1 Do three things to stay healthier at work
Is it one of your New Year’s resolutions to stay healthier in 2022? If yes, we have an idea that will make it very easy to stick to it. You spend almost 8 hours at work, so why not start from there?
Here are a few ideas for you-
- Pack your own lunch
- Take a 5-minute break every hour
- Take the stairs if you’re back in the office
- Perform stretching and breathing exercises before you begin your day
- Stay hydrated
- Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds to reduce eye strain
#2 Clean out your physical and digital clutter
A cluttered space is a cluttered mind, and this holds true for your physical and digital space. Make periodical tidying a part of your routine this year. Decluttering doesn’t have to be an arduous task if you do a bit of it daily. Take 10 minutes every morning or at the end of every day to declutter your physical space – clear out your bins, file papers, throw out used coffee cups and store your stationery and cables neatly.
The same goes for your computer files too. Do some digital decluttering by taking time every Friday to go through all of your emails. Delete emails that are no longer relevant and unsubscribe from ones you are no longer interested in.
#3 Pay more attention to your work-life balance
Ever find it hard to switch off from work mentally? Do you feel like you have no time to spare for yourself or your loved ones? Do you find yourself overworking to the point of exhaustion? - The Pomodoro Technique – Work for 25 minutes, take a break for 5 minutes, repeat. After 4 of these sessions (100 minutes), take a bigger break of 15-20 minutes.
- The Time Blocking Method – Plan out your day in advance and dedicate specific hours to accomplish particular tasks.
- The Most Important Task Method – Choose 1-3 tasks that have to get done during the day and focus on getting those done first.

Just like you commit yourself to conference calls and meetings, commit yourself to at least 5 minutes of mindfulness before you start work. Instead of checking your emails when you wake up, read a daily affirmation. Instead of scrolling social media, do a simple breathing activity. Relax your body, inhale, and then exhale slowly. Allow the next inhale to start on its own, letting your breath find its rhythm. Do this for five minutes, and your newfound calmness and positive energy will help you take on the day!
