Investing in education
Being an independently owned Irish business Codex takes pride in supporting the local economy and community, and feel that the DCU scholarship program is a great way to give something tangible back. We believe that investing in the community creates a cycle of opportunity and fairness that seeds a bright future for the youth of today. This is why Codex has partnered with Dublin City University (DCU) to contribute toward their scholarship program: DCU Access: pathways to brighter futures. DCU is a young, dynamic and ambitious university with a distinctive mission to transform lives and societies through education, research and innovation. Established 28 years ago the DCU Access Programme is Ireland’s first university access programme.
The values of the programme believe that talented young people must have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. No matter who they are or where they come from this programme is founded on the principle that education should be accessible to everyone.
The overall aims of the Access Programme are:
- To develop positive attitudes to education and help young people to remain at school.
- To encourage more students to consider third level education as a viable option.
- To help support those students who do make it to third level to complete their course of study.
Codex Office Solutions & DCU Partnership
This exciting new partnership will see Codex support a qualifying access student through to a 4-year degree course. The students can choose from a range of courses, such as; computing, languages, Business, Accounting and Finance and MINT (Marketing, Innovation and Technology).
Jamie graduated from DCU with a BCL in Law and Society in November 2017. His story represents the journey of many of our 1,300 Access students currently enrolled at the University.
“Growing up as the eldest of six siblings in Ballymun, I wasn’t sure that law would be within my reach. But thankfully I got to experience the ‘Shadow a Student Day’ through the Access service. Through this, I got to experience the course that I am in now and I also learnt about the reduced points entry that Access offers. Thankfully, I only needed a 15 point reduction to get into my course and it let me become the first person in my family to go to university. At first, though I doubted myself, I thought that I might be at a disadvantage coming in on the reduced points entry, that I might not be able to compete. I was determined to prove that I deserved to be there and within my first year I came tenth in my class in the exams.
The Access Programme has given me so many opportunities. I made so many friends through the orientation programme that once I came in, I never felt alone. There was always someone I could meet for coffee, or just to get food. It added a different dimension to my college life. I really enjoyed it and I don’t know where I’d be without it now.”
