Get to Know: Our Head of Marketing

Today, we sit down for a quick chat with our Head of Marketing, Emily McKenzie. Brains behind Codex‘s Marketing, Emily is exceptionally optimistic and pushes the envelope of creativity every single day.

Originally hailing from Vancouver, Canada, Emily brings over a decade’s worth of international experience in Marketing, Design and Branding to her role as the Head of Marketing in Codex. Despite having earned several accreditations over the years in Strategic Digital Marketing, Web Development and Graphic Design, Emily believes that her BA in Psychology has been instrumental to her career success in Marketing, as it has given her a vital understanding of behaviour and communication.

This is what she had to say –


I joined Codex in October as the Head of Marketing. My role in the company is multi-faceted. I am responsible for looking after the Codex brand, marketing plans, e-commerce website and communication for the business.

Over the course of the last year, Codex has made some big changes and it has been very exciting to join the team at such a transformative and innovative time.

Like anyone, my definition of success has changed over the years. However, I would have to say that growth and development form a major part of how I define it today.

Continuous learning is extremely important to me in both my personal and professional life and I seek out any opportunity I can to learn something new. For me to feel truly successful, I need to feel as though I am being challenged.

To be honest, the current situation has thrown a lot of my good habits out the window and replaced them with sweatpants and mid-week wine. However, I have really enjoyed taking advantage of this nice weather and making a ritual out of taking a pre-work walk by the sea-front every morning.

I find that this routine really centres my day and helps to get it off to a happy and productive start!

I am going to have to quote my mother on this one – “It is only a mistake if you don’t learn from it”.

As people, we are so programmed to think that mistakes are bad, instead of realising how valuable they can be to our own growth and development. To me, a successful individual isn’t someone who doesn’t make mistakes, but someone who can quickly pivot and adapt when things do not go as planned.

When the morning walk doesn’t work, I get my headphones out and stick on a concentration playlist on Spotify – The Codex Work From Home playlist works wonders! 

I have recently been using Asana and Microsoft To-Do  to track my – and my team’s – workload. There is nothing more satisfying than hearing that lovely tick sound when a task is completed.  

I am a morning person through and through and really value my sleep. To my significant other’s dismay, I can never make it through a movie or series without falling asleep on the couch!
