This week on our Get to Know Series, we have our Marketing Executive, Sherayne Rego. Sherayne is the creative force behind Codex’s content and social media strategy, and an innovator at heart who never shies away from a challenge.
Originally from the magnificent land of India, Sherayne joined Codex early this year as a Marketing Executive. She holds an MBA in Human Resources but is so glad she pursued this frail inner voice that told her that Marketing was what she was meant for.
Sherayne describes herself as an optimist and epistemophilic and of course, a huge fan of big words.
Here are her answers to the questions we asked her –
I am the latest addition to the Codex family. I joined the Codex team in March 2020, amidst a pandemic and still am the “new girl” to most of my colleagues. I’m a Marketing Executive and handle all of Codex’s Social Media and all the (amazing?) content you read online. I am a social media evangelist, through and through. I’m 23 years old, so you’d expect me to be one.
When it comes to content creation, no two days are the same. With constant deadlines, research and brainstorming, stagnancy is a word that doesn’t exist in my dictionary. My job is all about communicating a message, gaining insight and exchanging ideas. I love learning and creating, and fortunately for me, my job lets me do both!
As someone born during the crossroads between the Millennial generation and Gen Z, success to me lies in the experiences I have. I am always in search of things and processes I don’t know or have never tried before. Trying these new experiences and getting better at it with every passing day is what success really is to me. Of course, things like a hefty paycheck and end-of-month numbers do matter. But to me, they aren’t indicators of success.
In addition to experiences, if someone can confide in me and can trust me to get them out of a sticky situation, that’s when I know I’ve achieved it all.
I thought you wouldn’t ask! I am the biggest foodie you will ever meet. And it’s all great….until you step on the weighing scale! These past few months, I’ve been trying to eat clean, drink lots of water and go out for a walk every evening.
From healthier-looking skin to better z’s, I’ve found that this change has really made everything better!
Here’s a little (not so) fun fact about me. I travelled halfway across the world from India to Ireland to complete my Masters. Once I graduated, I was in the scary world of job hunting. As a fresher, it is terrifying. Because here’s the thing, you need experience to get a job, and you need a job to get experience—a classic Catch-22.
The 21-year-old me looked at Gary Vaynerchuk for inspiration, and I wasn’t disappointed. These words changed my perspective and eventually, my life – “If the market is telling you that you’re worth zero because you have no experience, then that’s the best place to start!”. I then went on to get my very first internship (after my Masters!) which led me to my first full-time job!
This piece of advice works wonders in my life as a Marketing Executive too. Every time I feel like I don’t know something, I remind myself not to fret! Because realising that you don’t know something is the first step to learning it.
Lists, lists and more lists. I have a list for everything. Daily to-do lists, short-term goal lists, long-term goal lists, grocery lists, meal-prep lists. You name it, I have it.
Lists don’t intimidate me. In fact, they push me to get things done and stay on track. They ensure that I know what I have going on for the day, week and month. This means I can meet all my deadlines and I still have time for myself!
Not quite sure about being a morning person, but I’m definitely NOT a night owl. I love having dinner before sunset, catching up on some Netflix and going to bed by 10 pm. I have always been this way since I was a child and I don’t see it changing anytime soon. If you ask my family and friends, they’ll tell you how much I love my sleep!
