Project Summary
Codex was entrusted with a pivotal project to fit out a newly repurposed office space for the Primary Care Centre, one of Ireland’s largest and most significant public healthcare organisations. Located in Clondalkin, Co. Dublin, the project involved transforming two four-storey buildings—originally apartment blocks—into functional office spaces.
The core task was to install desks across these buildings within a tightly controlled timeline. Spearheading the effort was Keith McEvoy, Furniture Specialist at Codex, who oversaw every aspect to ensure the project was completed ahead of the initially allocated schedule.
This successful early completion highlighted Codex’s efficiency and expertise in managing complex, large-scale fit-out projects.
The Challenge
The requirement to resize desks to 1400mm to comply with updated health and safety regulations necessitated a major rethink of the original office layout. This resizing impacted the spatial arrangement, requiring a complete reconfiguration of the desk layout to maximize the available space while maintaining essential functionality.
Each desk needed to be equipped with individual privacy pods and screens, tailored to the specific needs of a healthcare environment. A tight deadline added further pressure, as the team had to execute the plan within a fixed timeframe without compromising on quality or efficiency. “You have to get hands-on sometimes,” says Keith. “We were in there every day, turning desks this way and that, seeing if we could find a more streamlined configuration that still met all the criteria in terms of number of people, access to electrics and so on.”
Overcoming these challenges demanded meticulous planning, innovative problem-solving, and a hands-on approach to ensure every aspect was addressed effectively.
The Result
Codex’s meticulous planning and execution resulted in a highly successful fit-out. “For the desks, we went with a silver frame and white top for a clean, elegant look and feel, with a vinyl screen that makes it super-easy to clean,” says Keith. “The silver/white spec gives a nice bright finish that can tie in with pretty much any colour scheme.” Each desk also features built-in storage solutions to maximise space.
Not only did Keith’s team find the perfect configuration for the new desk plan, they also completed the install well ahead of schedule. “We had our own install team plus some extra resources – 10 installers overall,” he says. “We had factored up to 15 days for the install, but we got the job done in just nine days.”
Having delivered, installed and moved all desks into their final positions, the Codex team removed all packaging and left the site clean and ready for use. A total of 357 new desks were installed in the new facility, helping our customer to continue its mission of providing healthcare to all people living in Ireland.
Project Summary
Codex were delighted to be appointed as the selected furniture supplier to the development of the Grangegorman site into the purpose built DIT campus on Dublin’s northside in 2020
Codex was awarded the project based on the strength of our tender proposal and the project which represented a €1.8million opportunity, was the single biggest furniture operation that Codex had undertaken.
The development represented the largest investment in higher education in Europe to date and involved the building of the East and Central Quadrant buildings which on completion would accommodate up to 10,000 students.
