Stream BioEnergy
Designing a New Office Space
Furniture | Technology
Project Summary
Stream BioEnergy might just be the most interesting Irish tech success story you’ve never heard of. Based in Dublin, the company specialises in biogas projects that turn agricultural and food waste into renewable energy and environmentally friendly biofertilizer, using a process called anaerobic digestion.
Leading the push to decarbonise our national agri-food sector, Stream BioEnergy operates some of Ireland’s biggest biogas projects including the Tully Biogas plant in Ballymena, which produces enough renewable energy each year to power 6,000 homes. The company won the 2017 Sustainable Ireland award for ‘Best Energy Generation’.
Earlier this year, Stream BioEnergy invested in a new corporate headquarters in the vibrant heart of Dun Laoghaire, south Co. Dublin. After a competitive process that included several rounds of lay-out proposals, Codex was awarded the project of designing, furnishing and fitting-out the state-of-the-art new office space.
The Challenge
With Keith McEvoy, one of our most experienced Furniture Specialist, leading the Codex team, our first task was to understand how we could accommodate all of the customers’s requirements in a relatively compact space.
Over the course of four initial site visits, in consultation with the client and building contractor, we mapped out a plan that would deliver a high-end yet highly functional workspace for Stream BioEnergy and its team of 12. Our plan was to deliver a boardroom, four individual offices, a meeting room, canteen and storage area.
The biggest challenge was space. Not only did we need to make the most of the physical space in terms of fittings and furnishing, but our design concept and colour palette also had to work hard to enhance the sense of spaciousness and elegant comfort.
The Strategy
Lots of glass. Lots of natural light. Lots of white! These elements were at the heart of our design, creating a lovely sense of space, openness and connectivity. The colour scheme included silvers and whites across the partition system, white on the chairs and grey carpeting to complement the other elements.
All furniture was carefully specified for elegance and flow, including the neat C-sense bench-style desking where no cables extend down to the floor, again heightening the impression of space. The desks – and doors – feature urban oak for a warm, welcoming feel, with high-end finishing throughout the office.
The bespoke lighting system for the boardroom is designed for maximum visibility and comfort, and with a total installation period of just two weeks, this is a project we’re especially proud of.
Client Feedback
“The Codex team was extremely efficient and knowledgeable. They really helped us to visualise the result with 3D drawings and colour samples that helped us to select furniture to suit our needs. The quality of furniture is excellent and the installation process couldn’t have been smoother, with Codex supplying and fitting everything from tables to chairs to storage units. What stood out most was the hands-on approach by Codex, who went above and beyond to ensure everything went exactly to plan. The team is delighted with our new office and we’d have no hesitation recommending Codex to any business embarking on an office refurb.”
