Reducing waste is an important goal for many companies in today's world. With climate change's impact becoming progressively evident, businesses increasingly look for ways to reduce their environmental footprint. As Repak members, we are committed to reducing waste and helping Ireland to play its part in achieving the goals set out in the EU Circular Economy Package.

Codex's Visit to Thorntons Recycling

Recently, the Continuous Improvement team at Codex had the opportunity to visit Thorntons Recycling at their state-of-the-art recycling plant in Dublin as part of a company initiative to reduce our waste. The visit was an eye-opening experience that gave us an understanding of the entire waste management process, from collection to recycling.

It was a key step in our sustainability journey here at Codex, which includes our goal to reduce the weight of our waste by 5% in 2023.

The benefits of waste recycling were discussed at length during the tour. Recycling helps to conserve natural resources by reducing the need for raw materials. It also helps to lower the amount of waste sent to landfills, reducing the likelihood of toxins, leachate and greenhouse gases escaping into the environment. By recycling waste, we can reduce our carbon footprint and help to create a more sustainable future.

Supporting Sustainability in the Workplace

Our visit to Thorntons Recycling was an important part of our company's initiative to reduce waste. By seeing first-hand what happens to our waste after collection, we gained a greater appreciation of sustainability in the workplace and its impact on the environment. We also gained valuable insights into improving our waste management practices and reducing our waste by 5%.

Thorntons Recycling highlighted the importance of working together to create a sustainable future while discussing the visit:

“We were delighted to host Codex at our state-of-the-art recycling facilities. It was a great opportunity to showcase our sustainability commitment and innovative recycling processes.

During the tour, we demonstrated how our facilities operate, from collection and sorting to transforming waste materials into new, valuable products. We also shared how our team works closely with local communities and businesses to reduce waste and promote sustainable practices.

It was inspiring to see the engagement and interest from the Codex team as they asked insightful questions and learned about the different ways we are working to positively impact the environment. We are proud of our work and grateful for the opportunity to share it with others.

We look forward to continuing to work with Codex and other partners to create a more sustainable future for all. Thank you for joining us on this journey.”

The most inspiring part of the visit was learning about how Thorntons Recycling promotes sustainability, such as investing in innovative technology to reduce on-site waste footprint and their strict environmental monitoring regime ensuring minimal environmental impact from all their sites.

Overall, the visit to Thorntons Recycling was an enlightening experience that left a lasting impression on the team. It was inspiring to see first-hand the many ways in which recycling and waste management can promote sustainability and reduce our impact on the environment. By incorporating these practices into our environmental initiatives, we can help to create a more sustainable and green future for all.
