How to Create a Relax Corner in the Office

Employees spend a significant chunk of their working lives in the office, which can be highly stressful. Therefore, businesses need to provide them with relaxing or recharge corners at work where they can unwind and take a breather when the day starts to get on top of them.

There are many ways to bring peace, calm and quiet into your office, and this does not have to be expensive. Here are four economical tips for creating a cosy corner in the office for better productivity and calm.

#1 Give your employees a home-like experience

The goal of any relaxing corner is to replicate a home-like experience. An office that feels warm and welcoming will ensure that the difference between work and home isn’t too vast for employees, and if this is done correctly, it will increase productivity. Add elements like plants, comfy sofas and wood furnishings to make your office more homely. Here’s why: Plants not only create a refreshing experience for employees but are also known to increase productivity and improve air quality. A comfortable sofa will make employees feel that they are working from home, and having meetings from the sofa will ensure a relaxed and more productive discussion. Lastly, the addition of wooden office desk furnishings will add a calming, home-life effect to the space.

#2 Update your kitchen area

While your office kitchen might not be the first place you think of when it comes to bonding, it is one of the most important. After all, your employees spend a lot of time making coffee, lunch and socialising. So how can you ensure they have a relaxing experience in this corner? One way is by upgrading your layout and creating a vibrant sitting area with a communal canteen table and seating options in the office kitchen. This way, your employees can enjoy their time relaxing here, which will help increase communication and allow workers to get to know each other. This will work wonders for the business’ productivity!

#3 Have a quiet corner

Employees are subjected to many stressors throughout the day, so it is essential for them to have a quiet corner to relax when they feel overwhelmed. This quiet corner can be a meditation room where employees can perform mindfulness. Alternatively, this relaxing space can also be a nap room. Many Irish employees are sleep-deprived and might want to unwind or take a power nap before returning to their tasks. This space doesn’t have to be massive, it could even be the corner of a room, but it should allow employees to go and take ten minutes when needed.

#4 Add a bit of fun

Companies like Google and Facebook receive a lot of attention for their extraordinary offices and fun-filled options for employees. While not all companies can afford this, the concept doesn’t have to be expensive.

For example, you do not have to dedicate a whole room to games and activities. Choose a corner of the office to add elements such as a ping-pong table, dartboard or any activity that will take employees’ minds off work for a few minutes.

At Codex, we are delighted to introduce our customers to the future of office furniture, Acoustic Pods. Acoustic office pods are self-contained spaces where employees can work, brainstorm, or give an online sales pitch away from their desks, free from distractions and noise.
